2 Journal History

Anales de Literatura Española is a scientific journal published by the University of Alicante's Department of Spanish Studies, whose first issue came out in 1982.

Spanish Literature lecturers from the University of Alicante detected the need for a Spanish Literature History journal where authors could publish their research and well-known specialists could contribute with their articles. That is how the first issue of this journal was born. Ever since then, Anales de Literatura Española has aimed to combine the research lines developed within the Department’s Area of Literature with contributions from well-known Hispanists.

Three main periods in the history of this journal can be highlighted. In the first period (issues 1 to 10), each volume contained miscellaneous articles revolving around the topic of Spanish Literature History, particularly during the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. From issues 11 to 30, the journal published monographs on the same topic. The model in place starting from issue 31 is mixed, combining monographs coordinated by specialists with miscellaneous articles submitted to the journal and approved by the Editorial Board once the required reports have been issued. From 2020 onwards, the journal is published twice a year, with a monographic issue in January and a miscellaneous issue in June.

The electronic version of the journal was launched in 2020 (ISSN: 2695-4257).

Also until 2023 (issue 39), works were published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence. From 2024, they will be licensed under an Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
